VFW Post 5621 Auxiliary

What is the VFW Auxiliary? And What Do We Do?

Established in 1914, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary set out to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. The VFW Auxiliary is one of the nation’s oldest veterans’ service organizations and our members are the relatives of those who served in a location of foreign conflict. Nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,500 Auxiliaries nationwide, plus three foreign-based Auxiliaries, volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel and their families.  - sited from vfwauxiliary.org

About the Auxiliary to Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post 5621

Established on January 14, 1947, the Auxiliary to the Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post 5621 in Liberty, Texas, has proudly served veterans, their families, and our community for over 75 years. Today, our Auxiliary is 119 members strong, with dedicated individuals from across the United States working together to uphold our mission.

Through our commitment to the VFW Auxiliary’s National Programs—Americanism, Auxiliary Outreach, Buddy Poppy & National Home, Hospital, Legislative, Membership, Mentoring, Scholarships, Veterans & Family Support, and Youth—we actively support veterans, service members, and their families. We also organize a variety of free activities for children and the community, as well as projects that directly benefit the veterans in our area.

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on generous donations, successful fundraisers, and sponsorships to make these programs and events possible. Our Auxiliary works side by side with our Post members, assisting with initiatives such as Flag Retirement Ceremonies and the placement of American flags on veterans’ graves at local cemeteries for Veterans Day and Memorial Day. We also prepare and serve meals to first responders in honor of Patriot Day (9/11) and to veterans on Veterans Day, showing our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

Our Auxiliary is proud to be part of District 2 of the Department of Texas, collaborating closely with other Auxiliaries in Beaumont, Cleveland, Orange, Port Neches, and here in Liberty to strengthen our shared mission of service.

You must be related to a veteran who has served overseas in a location of foreign conflict, earning the campaign medals eligible. That veteran can be a living or deceased spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent or grandchild.

Step- and adopted parents, children, siblings (and half-siblings), grandparents and grandchildren are considered the same as biological parents, children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren and may join the VFW Auxiliary under their VFW-eligible veteran.

The IRS determines the degrees of separation from the veteran that qualify for membership in a veterans’ service organization auxiliary. The relationship must be within two degrees of “consanguinity” in order to be eligible. That means two generations back (i.e. parents or grandparents) or forward (i.e. children or grandchildren).
